I’m still hard at work, at work, and writing. Except in true me-ish fashion, my focus has shifted at the moment. Maisy May 2 is still getting some attention (certain fans would hang, draw and quarter me if it weren’t), and so is (imminently) DEAD (65% written, first draft, for those who’re interested in that sort of thing). But I also have another short-short story collection brewing – this one called Bad Juju and all about vampires, werewolves, priests and other potentially-paranormal beasties. Oh, and banshees, of course. Where’s a book like that without banshees?

I bought a new mobile phone. Doesn’t sound too exciting, I’ll grant. I’m hoping this will give me a bit more time to (virtually) get out and be (social-networky) sociable, though, since it has wizz-bang features like internet access. Yes, I have been living in the Dark Ages – thanks for noticing! *snort* I have 2 hours of commute every day that are sometimes spent writing, but are often spent reading trash or trying not to snore too loudly in the ‘quiet carriage’, and I figure I could at least be whingeing to the world about being tired or bored.

After 15 years (when I dropped out to sow some wild oats), I’m going back to uni this month. Woooot! It’s a Bachelor of Liberal Studies, which means I can pull two main interests in whatever the heck I want into a degree. I’d like to do literature and theoretical physics, but the latter isn’t available online, so I might have to settle for lit/history. First up – Great Books 1. The Canterbury Tales, Macbeth, The Odyssey, Beowulf, and Gulliver’s Travels. I’d never read The Canterbury Tales before, and found it really hard to get into, until I caught the rhythm (or lack thereof) of it. But I’m plodding along more easily, now – still a little uncomfortable at going at reading-aloud speed, though, as I’ve found I mostly need to. *sniff* It’s still a good read, though, and I’m glad I’ve been prodded to read it.

Sorry this has been so self-absorbed. It’s all about me, tonight. I know, lame.

It’s been months since I’ve worked on either of my websites. I haven’t blogged, I haven’t tweeted, I haven’t even plurked. Wanna know why? It’s pretty simple, really. I hit a wall. Everything I wanted to do, versus what I was physically capable of… I smacked into the combination head-on, and it hurt hard. See, I have heart problems, I have lung problems, and I’m one of those people who really struggles with the mere concept of having limits. Bah. I hate limitations.

Oh yeah, and I started a new job. It’s been great – apart from the fact that less stress hasn’t magically morphed into me being able to cope with working fulltime and writing part-time and looking after a family in there somewhere too. Geez, just reading that makes me feel tired.

Anyway, the non-whiny summary is: I needed to cut back for a while and focus on keeping my new job, keeping my marriage together (any problems, I should note, caused by me being a stressed-out, grouchy feral), and writing another book. Or three, because I’m really not good at writing one book at a time. *rolling my eyes at myself*

Interested in what I’m writing? Check this out:

(imminently) DEAD – in which Geordie and Lazarus get starring roles

Vampire Sunday School – yeah yeah, I know, a vampire book? Yup. Bet ya never saw ‘em in Sunday school, though.

Maisy May 2 – and that might be the full title yet, because damned if I can think of anything else to call it.

So there ya go. On the bright side, I’m back and vaguely communicative! On the other hand, God knows how long it’ll last…
